What is the finger swipe reveal?

The finger swipe reveal is a 15-second vertical selfie video: two fingers cover the lens and both people’s eyes for nine seconds, then swipe down, and the person on the left is wearing a black pork-pie hat. This generator makes it from two photos, for couples and friends. It costs from 36 credits (about $1.00), there is no free video, and accounts without a purchase get a moving watermark.

People also call it the black hat reveal, the hand over camera reveal or the TV couple hat. It is one version of an October 2026 Reels trend on the sound “Underneath The Stars”, where the swipe reveals two people; the hat is the twist in this version. It is not an iPhone gesture and not the generic finger swipe transition in CapCut, which changes a scene and has no second person.

What does the finger swipe reveal look like, second by second?

One continuous take with no cut. Use this table to check your video before you post it; most of the checking happens around nine seconds.

TimeWhat happensWhat to check
0–9.3 sTwo fingers lie flat across the top of the frame and hide both pairs of eyes. Noses, mouths and clothes show below them.No hat, brim or hat shadow anywhere. Exactly two people, on the sides you chose.
9.3–9.8 sThe fingers lift a little and the hand sweeps down and out of the bottom right corner in one move.Five fingers, no smear across a face, and the hat is there as soon as the hand clears.
9.8–12 sBoth people stare into the lens, deadpan. The hat wearer is in the hat; the partner has none. Both faces match the photos. The hat sits level on the hair.
12–13.5 sThe hat wearer turns to the partner, who breaks into a laugh. The hat keeps its shape on the turn. Nobody swaps sides.
13.5–15 sThe hat wearer turns back and leans toward the lens while the partner keeps smiling.Same two faces, same hat, no added ending.

How do I make the finger swipe reveal with two photos?

  1. 01

    Pick who wears the hat

Upload the hat wearer as Photo 1 and the partner as Photo 2. Each photo shows one adult, waist up, face to the camera. Two separate selfies are fine.

  2. 02

    Choose the room and quality

Keep the bright hall or upload your own empty place: both of you end up in that room. Start with Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p; the button shows the exact credits before you start.

  3. 03

    Check it and download

Your MP4 is ready in a few minutes, with the sound. Check the swipe at nine seconds, then post it. A cover frame from the first nine seconds keeps the hat a surprise.

The price includes one prepared image of the two of you in the room, made first to help keep both faces and the hat consistent after the swipe.

Who wears the black hat, and can we switch?

The person in Photo 1 gets the hat. Use the swap button under the photos to switch before you start; it costs nothing until you generate.

Is there a finger swipe reveal template to download?

No, not for this video. We checked what “finger swipe reveal template” and “finger template” searches return on 31 October 2026: generic transitions and stock clips. They change one scene into another; none has the two people, the nine-second cover or the hat, and a template download would still leave you filming both of you. This page has no file to download. You upload two photos and get a finished MP4.

Can I make a finger swipe reveal for free?

Yes, if you film it. You need a phone, a real black hat and one continuous take; the free CapCut app is only for trimming. There is no free AI video here, because each one costs real generation time.

How to film it without AI

  1. Prop the phone, or have your partner hold it, front camera, recording for 15 seconds.
  2. The person on the left puts two fingers flat across the top of the lens, hiding both pairs of eyes.
  3. With your other hand, put the hat on under that cover; the fingers hide the top of your head.
  4. At about nine seconds, swipe the hand down and out of the bottom right corner. Do not stop recording.
  5. Stare at the lens for two seconds, turn to your partner, and let them laugh.

How much does a finger swipe reveal cost?

Every video is 15 seconds. Credits depend only on the model and resolution; the prepared image, the room and the sound are included.

Why do the faces look different after the swipe?

For nine seconds only the lower half of each face is on screen, so the eyes and forehead after the swipe come almost entirely from your photo. These are the likely fixes. They are not guaranteed, and each re-run is a new video at the full price, so change one thing at a time at 480p.

What you seeWhat to try
A face looks off after the swipeUse a sharp, front-facing photo with the eyes and forehead clear: no sunglasses, no fringe over the eyes.
The two of you swap sidesMost likely when the two photos look alike. Use photos with clearly different clothes or hair.
The hat floats or cuts through the hairBig or high hair is the hardest case. Tie it back, or swap so the person with flatter hair wears the hat.
The hat shows too early, or the swipe comes too soonRun it again. If it repeats, try a higher model; the moves come from the same timing on every model, but the cheaper ones can drift.
The hand has extra fingers or smears across a faceClose, blurred hands are hard for every video model. Run it again; a photo change will not help.
Blurry on Reels or TikTokRegenerate at 720p, which is enough for both apps. 1080p costs about two and a half times as much on Seedance 2.5.

What can’t this finger swipe reveal generator do?

  • It only makes this one 15-second video; the room can change, but the timing, the 9:16 frame and the moves are fixed.
  • Two adults only. No pets, children, groups of three or solo versions: a real hand has to cover the lens.
  • The black hat is the only costume. Each person wears the clothes from their photo.
  • You cannot swap the hat for another prop or fix one moment; any change is a whole new video.
  • Results vary. The faces and the hand are the parts most likely to need a second try.
  • Photos of celebrities, public figures or anyone who has not agreed are not allowed. Label the video as AI when you post it.

Where does the finger swipe reveal come from?

The finger-on-the-lens routine is an Instagram Reels trend. The earliest take we found is from 3 October 2026, and the sound “Underneath The Stars” listed about 13,000 Reels on 31 October 2026. Most show a pair, many in film-character costumes; a solo version adds the labels “Bonita” and “Feia” (pretty and ugly in Portuguese). The black hat came later: Ausar AI’s Instagram account posted an AI clip captioned “Walt and Skyler” in late October 2026. It borrows one detail: in Breaking Bad, Walter White wears a black pork-pie hat as his alter ego Heisenberg, so a hat on a deadpan face reads as a sudden change of character. “Finger swipe reveal” is a name given afterwards, for the move. Your video shows only your two faces and a plain black hat; no character from the show appears in it, and it works for couples and friends.

What song is in the finger swipe reveal?

Instagram labels the sound “Underneath The Stars” by Virexo Aelvix, and Shazam matches it to “worry (Instrumental Slowed)” by LONOWN & riserayss (both checked 31 October 2026). Some TikTok posts tag “worry” with Mariah Carey’s 1995 song “Underneath the Stars”, but we could not confirm a sample credit. The MP4 you download keeps the sound. For a paid ad, clear the music separately, or swap in a licensed sound in the app you post from.

Finger swipe reveal FAQ

Are finger swipe reveal, black hat reveal, hand over camera reveal and TV couple hat the same video?

Yes, for the hat version: they are all names for the same two-person clip, and none is official. “Finger swipe” and “hand over camera” also describe generic transitions, so look for the two people and the hat.

Is the black hat reveal filmed in one take, or is there a hidden cut?

The video runs as one take with no visible cut. The black hat version is AI-made, which is why the hat can simply be there when the hand leaves. Filmed for real, you slide the hat on under the cover of your hand.

Can we make it if we live in different countries?

Yes. Send each other one clear selfie, upload both, and you appear side by side in the same room. Use similar daylight if you can, and keep your whole faces in the shot.

I only have one photo of us together. Should I crop it?

Yes, if both faces stay sharp after cropping: make two photos with one person in each. A face that is small in the group photo will look soft in the video, so separate selfies are better.

Does CapCut have a template for the two-person black hat reveal?

We did not find one on 31 October 2026. CapCut’s “Finger swipe” template is a generic transition with no second person and no hat. You can film the reveal and trim it there, or use this generator.

Is there a finger swipe reveal template free download, or a finger template for CapCut?

No free download makes this video. The free finger template files online are generic transitions and stock clips with no second person and no hat. The free route is filming it yourself and trimming it in CapCut.

Can I use a friend’s selfie?

Ask first. Your friend will appear in a video on your account, so get their yes before you upload their photo, and again before you post the result.

Do I need to label it as AI when I post it to Instagram or TikTok?

Yes. Turn on the platform’s AI label when you post. Using it in a paid ad also needs both people’s permission and music you are licensed to use.
